Add Border to Image puts a solid-colour frame around a picture, from 0 to 200 pixels thick, in any colour you pick or type as a hex code. The border is added outside the image, so nothing is covered and the picture grows by twice the thickness in each direction.

A plain border helps a photo stand out on white pages and busy feeds, and gives a set of pictures a uniform look. It also adds breathing space when a social network crops the edges.

The tool fills a slightly larger canvas with your colour and places the original picture in the middle. A 24-pixel border on a 1080 × 1080 image produces a 1128 × 1128 PNG. Transparent parts of the original show the border colour behind them.

   Choose the photo or graphic you want to frame.

   Move the slider from 0 to 200 pixels in steps of 2; it starts at 24.

   Use the colour picker or type a hex code such as #ffffff for white or #0b2147 for dark navy.

   Add the border and download

   Press Run Add Border to Image and save the PNG, named with -bordered.
