BMP to PNG converts a Windows bitmap into a PNG file in your browser without changing a single pixel. Because PNG compresses losslessly, the file is usually far smaller than the BMP and can be shared or uploaded anywhere.

Bitmaps come from old versions of Paint, some scanners, screen-capture utilities and machines that export raw images. They are accurate but wasteful, and many websites and messaging apps refuse them.

PNG keeps the picture exactly as it is while packing repeated colours tightly. Diagrams, screenshots and drawings with flat colours often shrink dramatically; busy photographs shrink less, but never lose quality.

Will the PNG lose any quality?

No. PNG is lossless, so every pixel in the output has exactly the colour it had in the BMP.

How much smaller does the file get?

It varies with content. Screenshots and drawings with large flat areas often end up a small fraction of the BMP size. Detailed photos might only halve. The tool shows the exact saving.

PNG or JPG for my BMP?

Choose PNG for text, diagrams, signatures and anything that must stay sharp. Choose BMP to JPG for photographs where the smallest file matters more than perfect edges.

Is the bitmap uploaded anywhere?

No. Your browser opens the BMP and writes the PNG locally, so the picture stays on your device.

My BMP will not open. Why?

A few rare BMP types, such as some compressed or very old OS/2 variants, are not decoded by browsers. Opening and re-saving it in Paint first usually fixes that.
