Compress Image
Reduce file size via JPEG/WEBP quality. Files never leave your browser.
Reduce file size via JPEG/WEBP quality. Files never leave your browser.
Compress Image lowers a picture's file size by re-saving it as JPG or WEBP at a quality you choose, from 10% to 100% (70% to start). The width and height stay the same; only the amount of stored detail changes.
Most size limits on forms and websites are about kilobytes, not pixels. Lowering the JPG or WEBP quality removes fine detail the eye rarely notices and can cut a photo's size several times over without changing its dimensions.
Start at 70%, check the preview and the size on the result card, then move the slider up or down. If you need even smaller files, combine this with Resize Image, because fewer pixels shrink a file faster than lower quality alone.
Add the image
Upload the photo or screenshot you want to make smaller.
Set quality and format
Drag the quality slider (10% to 100% in steps of 5) and choose JPEG or WEBP.
Compress
Press Run Compress Image; the result shows the new size and the percentage saved.
Adjust or download
If the size is still too high, lower the quality and run it again; otherwise download.
Example: a 3.5 MB phone photo
A 3.5 MB 12-megapixel photo saved at 70% JPG quality often comes out around 1 to 1.5 MB. To reach a 300 KB form limit, resize it to about 1200 pixels wide first, then compress at 70 to 80%.
70 to 80% keeps most photos looking good with a big size saving. Below about 50%, blockiness and smeared detail become visible, especially around text and faces.
Not automatically. Lower the quality in steps and watch the size on the result card. If it will not go low enough, reduce the pixel dimensions with Resize Image first.
Your image was already strongly compressed, or it was a small PNG graphic. Re-encoding at a higher quality than the original adds bytes. Try a lower setting or keep the original.
JPEG is accepted by every form and app. WEBP is usually smaller at the same quality and keeps transparency, which suits websites.
Only if you choose WEBP. With JPEG the transparent parts are filled with white.
No. The browser re-encodes the image on your device; nothing is sent over the internet.
