Flip Image mirrors a picture horizontally (left becomes right) or vertically (top becomes bottom) and saves the result as a PNG. It runs in your browser and does not change the image's size.
Flipping is not the same as rotating. A horizontal flip produces a mirror image, so writing reads backwards; a vertical flip turns the picture upside down and mirrors it at the same time. Rotating, by contrast, only turns the picture without mirroring.
The most common reason to flip is a front-camera selfie: many phones save it mirrored, so a T-shirt slogan or shop sign appears reversed. A horizontal flip puts it the right way round.

Flipping mirrors the image, so text appears reversed. Rotating turns it like a steering wheel without mirroring. Use Rotate Image if a photo is simply sideways.
Front cameras show a mirror view so you can frame yourself naturally, and some phones save it that way. A horizontal flip gives the view other people actually see.
The tool saves PNG, which is lossless. For photos that means a larger file. Convert the result with PNG to JPG if size matters.
Run the tool twice: once horizontal, then load the result and flip vertical. Flipping both ways is the same as rotating by 180 degrees, which Rotate Image does in one step.
No. Flipping is done on a canvas in your browser, and the file stays on your device.
