GIF to PNG saves the first frame of a GIF as a lossless PNG image, right in your browser. If the GIF has a transparent background, the PNG keeps it; animation is not carried over.
GIF is an old format limited to 256 colours per frame, still used for animations, simple logos and stickers. PNG can hold everything a GIF frame contains, including transparency, and is better supported by editors and design tools.
When you load an animated GIF, the browser hands the converter its first frame. That frame is written to PNG exactly as it appears, so colours and edges do not change.
