JPG to PNG re-saves your JPG photo as a lossless PNG file on your own device. The width and height stay the same, and from then on every edit and save keeps the picture exactly as it is.
A JPG loses a little detail every time it is saved, because the format compresses by discarding information. PNG stores pixels exactly. Turning a JPG into a PNG cannot bring back detail the JPG already lost, but it stops further loss while you crop, annotate or edit the picture several times.
Expect the PNG to be larger than the JPG, often two to five times larger for a photo. That is normal: lossless storage needs more bytes. If size matters more than editing, keep the JPG.
Pick the JPG
Click the upload box and choose a .jpg or .jpeg file from your phone or computer.
Run the converter
Press Run JPG to PNG. Your browser draws the photo and encodes it as PNG in a moment.
Save the PNG
The result card shows the new size; Download saves it under the same name ending in .png.
Example: a 1.2 MB phone photo
A 12-megapixel phone photo saved as a 1.2 MB JPG commonly becomes a PNG of roughly 5 to 15 MB, depending on how much texture the scene has. The image looks the same; the extra bytes are the price of lossless storage.
No. It freezes the quality at its current level. Blur or blockiness already in the JPG stays, but no new loss is added when the PNG is edited and saved later.
PNG keeps every pixel exactly, while JPG throws away fine detail to save space. For photos, a PNG two to five times the JPG size, or more, is normal.
No. The converter copies the pixels as they are, so a white background stays white. You need a background remover or an image editor to make it see-through.
No. The JPG is decoded and re-encoded by your own browser, and the download is created on your device. There is no upload step.
No. The browser redraws the picture, so EXIF data such as the camera model, date and GPS location is not written into the PNG. That can be useful before sharing a photo publicly.
This page takes one image per run. Pick the next file after downloading. For batch work in one go, the Image Resizer accepts several files and can output PNG at 100% scale.
