Vectorize a JPG into clean SVG paths.
JPG to SVG traces a JPG into a single-colour vector SVG with potrace on our server. Each pixel is first judged black or white at 50% brightness, so the result suits scanned line art, stamps and signatures far better than colour photos.
Most JPGs people want to vectorise are phone photos or scans of something drawn on paper: a hand-drawn logo idea, an office seal, a signature or a sketch. JPG compression leaves faint noise around edges, and the black-and-white threshold cleans much of that away before tracing.
ImageMagick converts the JPG to pure black and white at a 50% threshold, then potrace outlines the black areas as smooth Bézier paths. Anything lighter than mid-grey is dropped, and no colour is kept. The file is processed on our server and removed, together with the SVG, as soon as your download is delivered.
Photograph or scan on white paper
Even light and a plain white page give the cleanest black-and-white split.
Upload the JPG
Select the .jpg or .jpeg (up to 100 MB) and press Run.
Inspect the outline
Shadows from the phone or paper texture can appear as extra shapes; crop and retry if needed.
Save the SVG
Download it and refine or recolour it in a vector editor.
Technically yes, but the result will be a stark black-and-white silhouette, not a detailed portrait. This tracer is designed for line art, text, stamps and logos.
Shadows or dark edges in the photo are darker than the 50% threshold, so they are traced too. Crop the JPG tightly and take the photo in even light.
Light pencil lines fall above the threshold and are treated as white. Go over the lines with a dark pen or increase the contrast in a photo editor first.
No. The JPG is sent over HTTPS, traced in an isolated temporary folder, and that folder is deleted once the SVG reaches you.
Yes. The paths can be recoloured, resized, simplified or combined with text in any vector program.
