JPG to WEBP re-encodes a JPG photo as a WEBP image at 92% quality, entirely in your browser. WEBP is built for the web and is often smaller than a JPG of similar visual quality, and the tool shows the exact size difference.
Photos are the heaviest part of most web pages. WEBP uses newer compression than JPG, so a product photo, banner or blog picture can often be served with fewer bytes and no visible change.
Be aware that your JPG is already compressed. Re-encoding at a high 92% quality sometimes saves a lot and sometimes very little; occasionally the WEBP even comes out larger. The result card shows a green or amber figure so you can decide which file to keep.

Usually, but not always. For a fresh, high-quality JPG the WEBP is often noticeably smaller. For a JPG that was already squeezed hard, re-encoding at 92% can save little or even grow the file; the tool shows you which happened.
At 92% quality most people see no difference on screen. Each lossy re-encode does add a tiny amount of change, so keep your original JPG as the master copy.
Not on this page. Use the Compress Image tool, pick WEBP, and move the quality slider down; around 70 to 80% often gives a much smaller file with acceptable looks.
No. The browser on your device does the encoding, so photos are never transferred anywhere while you convert them.
Many apps accept WEBP today, but support differs by app version and device. For sending photos to people, JPG remains the safest format; WEBP shines on your own website.
