PNG to BMP writes your PNG as a genuine 24-bit uncompressed Windows bitmap, built in your browser. See-through areas are painted white, since this kind of BMP has no transparency channel.
BMP is one of the oldest image formats on Windows. It stores every pixel as three raw bytes (blue, green, red) with no compression at all. That makes files big, but also trivially easy for simple programs and small devices to read.
Browsers cannot save BMP on their own, so this tool assembles the bitmap byte by byte: a standard 54-byte header followed by bottom-up pixel rows, padded to multiples of four bytes as the format requires. Any program that opens classic BMP files should accept the result.
Load the PNG
Click the upload box and pick a .png file.
Build the bitmap
Press Run PNG to BMP. Transparent pixels are flattened onto white and the BMP is assembled.
Save it
Download the .bmp file and open it in the program or device that needs it.
Example: a 1920 × 1080 PNG
Each row takes 1920 × 3 = 5,760 bytes, so the pixel data is 5,760 × 1,080 = 6,220,800 bytes. With the 54-byte header the BMP is 6,220,854 bytes, about 5.9 MB, no matter how simple the picture is.
A real one. The file starts with the BM signature, carries a standard 40-byte info header and stores raw 24-bit pixel rows. Programs that check the file contents, not just the name, will accept it.
BMP stores every pixel uncompressed at three bytes each. A PNG compresses repeated colours; a BMP never does, so even a plain logo becomes several megabytes at large sizes.
It turns white. 24-bit BMP has no alpha channel, and white is used so the image does not end up with a black background, which is what browsers produce by default.
No. The pixels are read from a canvas in your browser and the BMP bytes are written right there, so nothing leaves your device.
Only by reducing its pixel dimensions, because BMP has no compression. Resize the PNG first with Resize Image, then convert it.
