PNG to SVG

Vectorize a PNG into clean SVG paths.

⚡Runs on our server. Server-side: potrace black/white vectorizer. The file is processed in an isolated temp directory and deleted immediately after.

About PNG to SVG · বিস্তারিত

PNG to SVG traces a PNG into vector paths with potrace on our server and returns an SVG in one colour (black shapes on a clear background). It works well for simple logos, signatures and icons; photos and multi-colour artwork will not come out the way they look.

Raster images are made of pixels and blur when you enlarge them. Vector files describe shapes, so they stay sharp at any size, which is what sign makers, embroidery and laser-cutting services and printers often ask for. Converting from pixels to shapes is called tracing, and it is always an approximation of the original.

Here is exactly what happens: ImageMagick removes transparency (see-through areas become white), then turns every pixel either black or white at a 50% brightness threshold. potrace draws smooth curves around the black regions and writes them as an SVG. Colours, shading and gradients are therefore not kept. The PNG goes to our server over HTTPS and is deleted along with the working files once the SVG is returned.

How to use it · কীভাবে ব্যবহার করবেন

  1. Prepare a clean PNG

Dark artwork on a light or transparent background gives the cleanest outline; crop away anything you do not want traced.

  2. Upload and run

Choose the PNG (up to 100 MB) and press Run; potrace usually needs only a few seconds.

  3. Check the preview

Thin lines and small text can merge or vanish, so zoom in on the result.

  4. Download the SVG

Open it in Inkscape, Illustrator, Figma or Canva to recolour or scale it.

When it helps · কখন কাজে লাগে

A scalable version of a simple logo
Small shops and organisations that only have their logo as a PNG can get a one-colour vector for banners, rubber stamps or vinyl stickers.
Signature for documents
A scanned signature on white paper traces into clean paths that stay crisp at any size.
Cutting and engraving
Laser, vinyl and CNC cutters follow vector outlines, which a black-and-white trace provides.

What you get

  • potrace vector tracing with smooth curves
  • Black and white at a 50% brightness threshold
  • Transparent areas treated as white before tracing
  • Output is plain SVG that any vector editor opens
  • Up to 100 MB per PNG

Questions people ask · প্রশ্ন ও উত্তর

Will my colourful logo stay in colour?

No. The tracer only sees black and white, so the SVG is a single-colour silhouette. You can recolour the shapes afterwards in a vector editor, but separate colour areas are not traced individually.

Why did part of my logo disappear?

Pixels lighter than 50% brightness become white and are not traced. Yellow, light grey or pastel parts often vanish. Darken those areas or convert the PNG to black and white yourself before uploading.

Is the result a real vector?

Yes, the SVG contains true path outlines that scale without blurring. It is a tracing, though, so curves and corners are approximations of the pixels you supplied.

What happens to the transparent background?

Before tracing it is treated as white, so it stays empty. The SVG itself has no background, only the black shapes.

Who handles my file?

Our server does. The PNG arrives over HTTPS, ImageMagick and potrace process it in a temporary directory, and that directory is deleted after the SVG is returned.

How do I get a better trace?

Use the largest version of the image you have, with strong contrast and no shadows. A 1000-pixel-wide logo traces far more cleanly than a 100-pixel icon.
