PNG to TIFF writes a PNG's pixels, including its alpha (transparency) channel, into an uncompressed TIFF file in your browser. No quality is lost, since both formats are lossless; the TIFF is just larger.
PNG is the web's lossless format; TIFF is the lossless format of print and publishing. Logos, illustrations and screenshots often start as PNG and must be handed to a printer, typesetter or archive that asks for TIFF.
The conversion copies pixels one to one into an uncompressed RGBA TIFF using the UTIF library. Because transparency travels in the fourth channel, programs that understand TIFF alpha show the cut-out cleanly; some older viewers may display it on black or white.
Add the PNG
Select a .png file, for example a logo or illustration.
Convert to TIFF
Press Run PNG to TIFF; the RGBA pixels are written into a TIFF.
Download
Save the .tiff file and send it to the printer or archive.
The alpha channel is written into the file. Editors such as Photoshop, GIMP and Affinity normally show it as transparency; a few simple viewers ignore it and show a solid background.
No. Both are lossless and the pixels are copied exactly.
PNG compresses its pixels; this TIFF does not. A 2000 × 2000 logo takes about 16 MB as uncompressed RGBA TIFF.
Not on its own. This tool writes RGB with alpha and no DPI value. Open the TIFF in an editor to convert it to CMYK and set the resolution, or ask the printer whether RGB is acceptable.
No. Your browser reads the PNG and assembles the TIFF on your device.
