Vectorize a TIFF into SVG (server-side potrace).
TIFF to SVG traces the first page of a TIFF into vector paths with potrace and returns an SVG. Before tracing, every pixel is forced to either black or white (anything darker than mid-grey turns black), so the SVG is a single-colour outline, suited to logos, signatures and line art rather than photos.
Vector SVG files can be scaled to any size without pixels showing, which is what sign makers, laser and vinyl cutters, embroidery digitisers and print designers need. A scanned TIFF is made of pixels, so it has to be traced.
On our server, ImageMagick takes the first page of the TIFF and turns every pixel lighter than 50% grey white and every darker pixel black. Potrace then draws smooth curves around the black shapes. Colours and grey shading do not survive this process; the result is black shapes on a transparent background.
Choose the TIFF
Select a .tif or .tiff file, ideally a clean, high-contrast scan.
Send it for tracing
Run the conversion. The TIFF travels over an encrypted HTTPS connection to the shomoy.io conversion server, where ImageMagick and potrace process it.
Download the SVG
Save the .svg and open it in Inkscape, Illustrator, a cutter program or a browser.

On the shomoy.io conversion server. Your TIFF travels there over HTTPS, is converted with ImageMagick and potrace, and the temporary copy is deleted right after the SVG is returned. Files up to 100 MB are accepted, with up to 10 conversions per 5 minutes per visitor.
Potrace traces shapes in a two-colour image. Before tracing, every pixel is set to black or white at a 50% threshold, so colours and shading are lost. The output is a one-colour vector, which you can recolour in a vector editor.
You can, but it will look like a high-contrast stencil, not a photo. Tracing works for logos, text, signatures and line drawings with clear dark-on-light shapes.
Scan at a higher resolution, increase the contrast so lines are dark and the paper is white, and crop away borders and smudges before converting.
