MOBI to PDF converts a DRM-free MOBI ebook, the older Kindle and Mobipocket format, into a PDF with Calibre on our server. The result opens in any PDF reader, so you no longer need a Kindle device or app to read the book.

MOBI is an ageing format. Amazon has moved its own books to newer formats, and many phones and computers have no app that opens .mobi files. If you have free ebooks, manuals or self-published titles saved as MOBI from years ago, a PDF is a safer copy to keep.

Calibre reads the MOBI and lays the text out on fixed pages. Chapters and images normally come across, but the reflowing nature of the ebook is replaced with set pages, and the original Kindle page locations will not match.

Can I convert Kindle books I bought from Amazon?

Usually not. Purchased Kindle books are protected with DRM, and this tool does not remove it. It works with MOBI files that are free of copy protection.

What is the difference between MOBI and AZW3?

Both are Kindle formats. MOBI is the older one with simpler formatting; AZW3 (also called KF8) supports richer layout. We have a separate AZW3 to PDF tool.

Is the file processed on my device?

No, on our server. The MOBI is sent over HTTPS, converted in a temporary folder by Calibre and then deleted together with the output once you have downloaded the PDF.

Why are the page numbers different from my Kindle?

Kindle uses locations rather than fixed pages. The PDF gets new pages based on Calibre's default page size.

Is it free?

Yes. There is no fee and no account, only a fair-use limit of 10 conversions per 5 minutes.
