PDF to EPUB converts a text-based PDF into an EPUB ebook with Calibre on our server, so the text reflows to fit small screens instead of forcing you to zoom and scroll. Simple single-column books convert well; multi-column layouts, tables and scans do not.
Reading an A4 PDF on a 6-inch phone means pinching, zooming and scrolling sideways on every line. An EPUB solves that because the text wraps to the screen and you can change the font size in your reading app.
The catch is that a PDF does not know where its paragraphs start or which line is a page header. Calibre has to guess, using its default settings. Novels, essays and plain reports usually come out readable; page numbers and running headers may appear inside the text, and complex layouts can come out jumbled.
Pick a text PDF
Choose a PDF where you can select the words; scanned books will not reflow.
Convert with Calibre
Upload it; the server produces the EPUB, which can take up to two minutes for long files.
Open in a reading app
Load the EPUB in Google Play Books, Apple Books, Moon+ Reader or any EPUB reader.
Adjust the font size
Use the reader's settings to pick a comfortable size; the text rewraps automatically.
Those are usually the PDF's page numbers or running headers. A PDF does not mark them as separate from the body, so Calibre sometimes keeps them in the flow.
Not usefully. A scan is a set of page images, so the EPUB would contain pictures that cannot reflow. OCR would be needed to get text first.
It has to be, since Calibre lives on our server. The upload is encrypted with HTTPS, the conversion happens in a short-lived folder, and that folder goes away when the EPUB is delivered.
Amazon's Send to Kindle service accepts EPUB files and converts them for the Kindle. Alternatively, use our PDF to AZW3 tool and copy the file over USB.
Usually yes; Calibre carries images from the PDF into the EPUB, though their position may shift.
