PDF to PNG renders each page of a PDF as a lossless PNG image at 1× to 4× scale (about 72 to 288 DPI, default 144 DPI). Text edges, tables and line drawings stay perfectly crisp; pages are drawn on a white background.

JPG blurs sharp edges slightly to save space. That is invisible in photos but can show as faint smudges around small text, thin table lines and diagrams. PNG stores every pixel exactly, which is why it is preferred for pages that are mostly text or graphics.

The price is size: a PNG of a text page is often several times larger than the same page as a JPG. Choose PNG when sharpness matters more than file size, for instance for slides, charts, question papers or pages you will crop and edit later.

Can I get transparent PNGs?

No. Pages are drawn on a white background, the way a PDF viewer shows them, so the PNGs are not transparent. To remove the white, use a background remover on the image afterwards.

Why are the PNG files so big?

PNG keeps every pixel without loss. A text page at 2× is often a few hundred kilobytes to over a megabyte. If size matters more than crispness, use PDF to JPG instead.

What DPI do I get?

Scale times 72: 1× is about 72 DPI, the default 2× about 144 DPI, and 4× about 288 DPI. For printing, 3× or 4× is safer.

Is the text in the PNG still editable?

No, it becomes part of the picture. To get editable text, use PDF to Text.

Does the PDF leave my computer?

No. Each page is drawn into an image inside your browser on your own device.
